Carved ceiling lamp; XVIII century.
Carved, gilded and polychrome wood.
It has wrought iron sconces from a later period.
Measurements: 130 x 65 x 22 cm.
Ceiling lamp made of carved, gilded and polychrome wood that presents a vertical structure. In it a design based on a very volumetric relief can be appreciated, which is composed of vegetal elements, emphasizing the three pomegranates located in the inferior zone of the piece. In the upper zone, flanked by the vegetal decoration, the presence of a large border can be appreciated. It is a decoration that follows the aesthetic precepts of the full rococo art of the 1730-40's, since the asymmetry is complemented by an overflowing decoration, which completely hides the structure, following a totally anti-classical criterion opposed to the previous baroque, which was above all a classicist language. Here, however, we see a rococo fully formed in the ornamental, but that reveals the tendency towards containment that will mark the course towards the neoclassicist language.
It is worth noting the presence of iron sconces from a later period, whose usefulness is intended to serve as a light support.
