Spanish school, second half of the 17th century "St. Martin of Tours and the Beggar". Oil on canvas, relined. Reinforced on the edges. Frame of the XIX century. Measurements: 33 x 24 cm. 39,5 x 32 cm. (frame). The theme of St. Martin and the Beggar has been treated by great artists, such as Anton van Dyck or El Greco, especially from the Baroque period. In this painting, the saint clearly shows us the gesture of cutting with his sword a piece of his cloak to give it to the poor. The armored clothing of the rider of the beautiful white cord contrasts with the rags of the beggar. The red cloth, being the protagonist of the painting, exerts a studied chromatic attraction in the middle of a landscape dominated by ochre and white tones. The burnished metals have been worked with careful glazes.
