Italian school; 18th century. "Landscape of Turkish inspiration". Oil on panel. Measurements: 28 x 61 cm; 42 x 75 cm (frame). In this work of landscape format the artist collects a landscape of great amplitude, where the artist configures in the foreground a lush area, which opens in the center to a calm sea. The sumptuousness of the sky stands out, which is defined by pink clouds that almost cover the entire blue sky, indicating that this is a moment of sunset. The artist has included in the scene several characters, which are barely visible due to their proportions, although they seem to be wearing Arabian clothes. This characteristic shows the artist's closeness to many of the painters who traveled to the Middle East in search of that invented reality and discovered a different and new country, which stood out with its peculiarities above the clichés and prejudices of Europeans. In many cases the contact with the East was made in Europe itself, through the trade routes, a relationship that brought a real vision in all its daily dimension. Along with the change of vision comes a technical and formal change; since it is no longer a question of recreating an imagined world in all its details, the brushstroke acquires impressionist fluency, and the artists focus not so much on the depiction of the types and customs as on the faithful reflection of the atmosphere of the place, of the very identity of the North African populations.
