Although the subject represented is the Holy Family, the author of this work focuses the attention on the group, of pyramidal composition, formed by the Virgin, the Child, San Juanito and an angel musician with a harp, located in the foreground. Thus, St. Joseph is in the background, perfectly illuminated and described but outside the main group, like the musician angel holding a lute. The Virgin holds Jesus in her arms. In front of her, St. Johnny tries to attract her attention by raising the Lamb of God, one of the main iconographic symbols of this saint who symbolizes Christ and who, in this case, transcends the simple character of an iconographic attribute of St. Johnny to offer a dramatic though veiled contrast between the tender unconcern of a child playing on his mother's lap and the terrible sacrifice to which he is destined. The scene is set in a baroque architectural setting with voluptuous draperies.
