The Flight into Egypt. (Pl. of the Life of the Virgin). About 1503. Woodcut. 211 x 301 [265 x 362]. Bartsch 89; Meder 201 (presumably II b). A good, somewhat gray proof, with no text on the reverse, the accidental white spot in the palms still visible, with five tiny breaks in the lower square line, partially pasted through the left edge on a frame background. Number 13 in pen and sepia ink below the subject at right. Thin band of gummed kraft around the edge on the front, with corresponding small traces of oxidation. Slight marginal oxidation. Short and thin vertical broken fold to the right of the standing salamander. Watermark: mitre surmounted by a cross (Meder 28). Ex-coll. Graf F. J. von Enzenberg (Lugt 845) and W. Bell Scott (Lugt 2607).
