MERCEDES 220 B Cabriolet. 1952. Type : 220 B. Chassis number : 187013 0310552 Engine : 6 cylinders in line of 2 195 cm3 (Ø cyl. 80 x 72,8). 80 horsepower at 4600 rpm. Fuel supply: SOLEX carburetor, double body reversed, ignition by coil and distributor. Gearbox: Manual, 4 speeds plus reverse. Rear wheel drive. Mileage: 15,241 km on the odometer. Registration: French Collection Vehicle, 13 HP. Technical control : Favorable on the basis of voluntary control. Condition : Rolling, very good general condition. Price : 80 000 €. Unveiled at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in April 1951, the Mercedes 220 is equipped with a 6-cylinder in-line engine with overhead camshaft. It develops 80 horsepower for a displacement of 2.2 liters. The cruciform chassis and the bodywork are almost identical to those of the 170 S except for the headlights in the front wings. More powerful and heavier than the previous version, the front wheels are equipped with "duplex" brakes. Its production started in the summer of 1951 with 3 possible body styles: the sedan, the cabriolet A and the cabriolet B. The model we present is a B cabriolet with two doors and 4/5 seats under the hood, produced at 2,360 units. It is in excellent working and presentation condition. It is a beautiful example of the first post-war Mercedes, well built, elegant and with a particularly good finish. This vehicle has been in the possession of its owner since 1994, acquired at a public auction in Fontainebleau.
