The Sunbeam Alpine Series 1 is a two-seater convertible coupe produced by the English car manufacturer SUNBEAM under the aegis of the ROOTES group between 1959 and 1960, with 11,904 units produced. The Alpine has known 4 successive evolutions until 1968, the production having stopped shortly after the repurchase of the mark by Chrysler. Its design is essentially due to Ken HOWES. The Series 1 made extensive use of components from other Rootes vehicles and was built on a modified Hillman Husky 6 station wagon base. The running gear came from the Sunbeam Rapier, but with front disc brakes instead of drum brakes. It had an optional overdrive and spoked wheels. The car had an independent front suspension with coil springs and a rigid rear axle suspended on semi-elliptical leaf springs. The car we are selling today is of historical interest: it was delivered new in Sweden on July 1, 1960 to Rune BÜCKLUND, an experienced rally driver who entered it in the Monte Carlo Rally, assisted by his friend Nils FALK. It was then number 111. Starting from Oslo, they reached Monte Carlo and finished first in their class, which earned them a great reputation. As such, this car will even be reproduced in miniature, still marketed today. Let us also note that the fact that it won its class at the time allows it to be eligible in the greatest historical rallies, which is of major interest. Concerning the car, it has been entirely restored from original parts, the engine has been overhauled and the interior has not changed since 1960, especially with its Tripmaster. It is sold with a full documentation in Swedish attesting its pedigree, supported by archive documents and photographs.
