View of Catania. 18th c Drawing, pen, black ink and grey wash, on laid paper, 13,5 x 24,3 cm, unsigned (brown spots). Finely executed view of the "Piazza del Duomo" with the "Fontana dell'Elefante". This fountain, made between 1735-1738 by the architect Giovanni Battista Vaccarini, consists of a Roman elephant made of black lava rock who carries a granite obelisk. The presence of Berlin carriages and the type of man's clothing indicate that the anonymous drawing was made in the 2nd half of the 18th c.
