[Atlas of the Non-European World]. Late 19th c Oblong folio: 39 maps drawn with pen, ink and watercolour paints on toned velin paper (minor defects). Unique extensive atlas for educational purposes, incl. 8 maps of continents and for each continent several country or regional maps. With for Asia (13 pl.): a plan of Jerusalem and maps of the Indochinese Peninsula, India, Afghanistan, Iran, China, Japan, Malaysia, etc. For Africa (9 pl.): Egypt, Sahara, Abyssinia, Sudan, Guinea, South Africa, the "unknown land" and the short-lived Shona state of Monomotapa (1629-1760). For the Americas (8 pl.): Canada, United States, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, the Antilles; and for Australia: Melanesia. The owner and possible author of the atlas, Joseph de Prévoisin, appears to have been a former pupil of the prestigious French military academy of Saint-Cyr. Prov.
