BARBEY D'AUREVILLY Jules - [LOBEL-RICHE Alméry] Les Diaboliques Paris, Romagnol, Collection des Dix, 1910 Fort in-4°. Full black morocco (G. Cretté, successor of Marius Michel). Spine with 5 nerves decorated with a quadruple set of cold scrolls, some enhanced with gold in their center. Author, title and year of edition in gilt letters. Plates abundantly decorated with the same set of cold scrolls, some of which, again, are enhanced with gold in a regular manner. Decoration in the purest Art Deco style. Lining and first endpapers of red suede. The back covers are framed with a golden net. Second endpapers of marbled paper with a cameo of gray-brown tones. All edges gilt. Covers and spine on board. Case lined (rubbed). Slight rubbing to the nerves. Very fresh inside. Edition illustrated by Alméry Lobel-Riche with 38 original etchings (portrait-frontispiece of the author, 20 hors-texte, 10 headpieces, 7 culs-de-lampe), most of them quite free. It is printed at 331 copies; here, 1/150 on vellum with the finished state of the engravings. Our copy contains in addition : - an original drawing signed by the illustrator in black and red chalk depicting the crucifixion of a young nude woman. Glued on, it is placed in the frontispiece, the portrait of the author normally in this place being moved after the title page - a suite of all the illustrations with remarks, in colors - 3 plates refused in 3 or 4 states (on Japon, one state of a plate on parchment) - 2 engravings in colors each one taking back a remark present on 2 engravings of the suite in colors with remarks - 2 engravings with annotations and pencil signatures of the illustrator announcing an artist's edition of respectively 10 and 12 prints - the subscription leaflet Magnificent copy in a sumptuous Art Deco binding by Georges Cretté.
