LAS CASES Emmanuel Count of Memorial of Saint Helena. Diary of the private life and conversations of the Emperor Napoleon, at Saint Helena London, Henri Colburn and co and M. Bossange and co, 1823, 8 volumes In-8°. Half brown glazed calf with corners (English period binding). Spine with 5 nerves trimmed with gilt pearl. Author's and title piece in chocolate brown leather. Cold beading on the boards. Spine lightened and small rubs to the spines and headpieces, more pronounced at some corners. Small paper tears in the margin of pp. 8-12 of volume 3 without affecting the text. Complete with the 3 folding maps and the engraving illustrating the Emperor's birthplace. Scarce foxing except on the maps and the engraving which have discharged on the title page. First edition published jointly with the Paris edition, however much rarer and more sought after than the latter. "Very rare, at the same date, in French, by Colburn and Bossange", even Clouzot states. A very nice copy.
