LORD BYRON Don Juan London, Thomas Davison, John Hunt, London, 1822-1824, 6 parts in 3 vols. In-8°. Full contemporary blond calf. Spine with four raised bands decorated with romantic gilt motifs and an eagle with spread wings in the tail, mark of Peter Howe Browne, 2nd Marquess of Sligo, considered a close friend of Lord Byron. Embossed boards surrounded by a double gilt fillet. Gilt chain on the back covers. Edges slightly marbled. Spine lightened. Slight rubbing from use and small stains on the boards. Some foxing. Very largely original edition: of the XVI Cantos, only the first 2 published by Davison in 1822 are in "new edition"; Cantos III to XVI are in original edition. A fine copy. Humphreys, 1906, 2 volumes Large in-8°. Half red morocco with corners (Riviere & Son). Spine with 5 nerves enhanced with gold, decorated with boxes and small gilt trophies. Plates decorated with double gilt fillet. Gilt head. Rubbing to the spines and corners, one corner restored.
