Spine with four raised bands decorated with romantic gilt motifs and an eagle with spread wings in the tail, mark of Peter Howe Browne, 2nd Marquess of Sligo, considered a close friend of Lord Byron. Embossed boards surrounded by a double gilt fillet. Gilt chain on the back covers. Edges slightly marbled. Spine lightened. Slight rubbing from use and small stains on the boards. Some foxing. Very largely original edition: of the XVI Cantos, only the first 2 published by Davison in 1822 are in "new edition"; Cantos III to XVI are in original edition. A fine copy.
