[WESTERN ARMY] - Copy by extract of the order of the Board of Directors. Partenay, 1794, in-4 oblong, 1 pp. on double sheets, handwritten header, wet stamp in negative of the 23rd Regiment of Chasseurs. Copy of an order of 15 frimaire year III (5 December 1793) concerning the replacement of the health officer in the first battalion of the 23rd Regiment of Chasseurs à pied. "The place of health officer being vacant by the resignation of the citizen Monceaux on the seventh frimaire (...) the council considering how much it is of the interest of the corps to make him replace, and after having taken reading of the various certificates which attest the talents, good conduct, morals and civic-mindedness of the citizen Pierre Linacier (...) it would be written to him to come to exert his functions at the earliest possible time (...)." Following are the signatures of the principal officers and non-commissioned officers of the battalion. In November 1794, Hoche had been appointed general-in-chief of the Army of the West; while fighting the Chouannerie, he undertook to negotiate separately with each Vendéen chief. In December the Convention took a first step by decreeing amnesty, the pact of La Jaunaye will follow a few months later. Beautiful regimental stamp, very unusual.
