[AUTOGRAPHY] - HÉDOUVILLE (Gabriel-Théodore d'). P.S. concerning the place of Vire. Angers, 1796, folio, 1 pp. with handwritten letterhead of the Armée des Côtes de l'Océans; small restoration in the corner.
Signed from the headquarters of Angers, the first germinal year 4 (March 21, 1796) ordering "the citizen Bonnière to take the command of the Place de Vire (...) one of the places in a state of siege in this army".
Located in the middle of the country controlled by Frotté, leader of the Norman Chouannerie, Vire (Calvados) had been placed under siege in February. Along with Tincheray and
Condé sur Noireau, Vire was one of the centers from which the Republican columns set out to track down the royalist bands.
