This treatise, devoted to the attack of the places, forms the volume IX of the Course of the military science, for the use of the infantry, the cavalry, the artillery, the engineers and the navy, published between 1740 and 1757. Very detailed, Bardet's work attempts to study all the different types of circumvallations and the placement of batteries, the approach and the art of passing ditches, according to the types of bastioning and irregular fortifications.
