Memoirs written by himself. Collected and put in order by M. Vinet, one of his aides de camp. Paris, Berquet and
Pétion, 1842, 3 vol. in-8, 4 folded facsimiles, green half-basin, spine with ornate nerves (modern binding). Mottling.
Rare first edition.
Belliard was in all the battles from Valmy to the French campaign and was always noticed for his heroic feats of arms (see
Dictionnaire Napoléon, page 192). The publication of these memoirs, although disjointed in form, is nevertheless of the highest order: there are important notes on the Egyptian expedition (volume 3), numerous unpublished letters, a conversation with the Emperor in Dresden, etc.
Good copy.
