Classic Kuyu marotte head, Republic of Congo. This type of object, generally sculpted as here with an anthropomorphic face, generally appears during dances linked to the cult of the snake (djo). Note the treatment of the eyebrows in opposition to the mouth, which gives the facial features a "heart-shaped" appearance.
Wood with remains of blue and white pigments.
