Round sculpture made in stucco in the form of a male bust. The author presents us with a man of mature age, who is dressed in an imposing cloak, which identifies the protagonist of the scene as a relevant character in society, perhaps a religious figure or even a playwright, which can be guessed from the expressiveness and forcefulness of the gesture that the protagonist acquires.
Jean Pierre Dantan began his artistic training with his father, who was also a sculptor. He later studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the guidance of Professor François Joseph Bosio, who had a direct influence on Dantan. He achieved great prestige by devoting himself to caricature, which he produced both in drawing and sculpture; in fact, he marketed with great success a wide variety of small-format busts representing satirical or famous figures of the time. In fact, he owned a shop known as the Dantan Museum.
