Estimate :
Subscribers only

[Celestial Spaces] Hector Servadac by Jules Verne. Illustrations by P. Philippoteaux. Paris, Bibliothèque d'Éducation et de Récréation, J. Hetzel et Cie, sd (1877). Large double in-8°. Publisher's full carmine red percaline "au miroir". 2nd plate very close to the one of the cartonnages "aux bouquets de roses" of the 5th type. Charles Magnier Binder. Gilt edges. Blue endpapers. Printed by Gauthier-Villars. First illustrated edition and first concomitant binding with the versions "aux deux éléphants", "au monde solaire" and "à la grenade". Covers restored. Copy rebacked. Perfect interior. To speak of rarity about this seventh volume of the Complete Works of Jules Verne in its "mirror" binding would be an understatement, since only two copies are known! After the six quadruple volumes, the novelty of the year 1877 (unique double binding "au miroir") was the last volume of this collection which remained very confidential (see also n°90 and 182 of this catalog).
