Dentu, 187); in-12, jansenist cherry morocco, spine ribbed, double gilt fillet on the necks and headpieces, inner frame of the same morocco, black morocco lining framed with a gilt fillet and red moire endpapers, marbled paper counterguards, cover and spine preserved, gilt edges on witnesses, lined case (G. Mercier sr de son père, 1931).
First edition.
Copy of the first issue, untrimmed, with the cover without edition mention. It was not printed on large papers.
"Very rare and much sought after work, the edition having been partly destroyed following a trial" (Carteret, I, 112).
A very nice copy, complete with its printed cover.
