Documentary set gathered by Valentine Hugo: about sixty manuscripts and documents, mounted in strong vellum paper notebooks, in two pink and purple half morocco folders, cases. Important file constituted by Valentine Hugo on his friendship with Éluard. Autograph notes of Valentine Hugo: memories and information on Éluard (8 pages in-fol. and 10 p. in-8), about fifty autograph copies of dedications of Éluard (most of them to her), copies by her of letters from Éluard (Eugène Grindel) to her mother... Photographs of dedications or manuscripts, of two portraits of Éluard by Max Ernst, of Mrs. Grindel; and about ten negatives. Original documents: letter from Cécile Éluard, note from Mrs. Grindel's hotel in Glion, plan of a subdivision in Aubervilliers made by Mr. Grindel... Press clippings. Autograph drafts of letters from Valentine to Éluard (including one on the death of Nusch, December 1, 1946), and a letter to Jean Cocteau (April 1, 1953) where Valentine speaks of the death of her mother and the odious attitude of Marie-Laure de Noailles, of her money problems which forced her to sell her library... Five original engravings by Valentine Hugo from 1937, beautiful state proofs, including one mounted under plexiglass on the upper cover of the first folder.
