CARACCI (A). AEDIUM FARNESIARUM. Rome, Monaldini, 1753. In-folio of [14]-74 pages, stiff vellum (modern binding).
Beautiful book dedicated to the frescoes painted by Annibale Carracci on the ceilings of the Galleria Farnese for Cardinal Farnese. These panels beautifully engraved by Cesi represent all the frescoes of the gallery with descriptions by Lucio Philarcaeo, pseudonym of Michelangelo Monsagrati.
The illustration consists of a portrait and 34 plates by Carache, drawn by Cesio and engraved by van Westerhout (nos. 1 to 33, two plates with the number 30), of which 13 are on double page or folding. The text is decorated with numerous vignettes (children's games, animals...) and, at the end, a large circular illustration (diam. 218 mm.) representing the abduction of Proserpine. Numerous repairs to the leaves without missing, light wetness and some soiled pages. (Cicognara 3376).
