In stark contrast to her polychrome surroundings, the young, unclothed woman on a green chair next to the richly set table with flowers and a well-stocked fruit bowl seems anything but full of life. For on prolonged viewing, she increasingly gives the impression of being overwhelmed by melancholy feelings, persisting in the moment of naked vulnerability, before going on with her day. The protagonist thus becomes a kind of still life herself.
