Eugen Robert was an important personality of the Berlin acting scene. In 1908 he founded the Hebbel Theater in Berlin, a few years later he was appointed director of the Residenz Theater and in 1920 he took over the management of the Tribüne in Berlin. Rudolf Grossmann was a tireless draftsman and with his numerous and characterizing portraits, of which the portrait of the Berlin theater director is an excellent example, he created a chronicle of the well-known and unknown personalities of his time.
