Oil/canvas, 35 x 40,5 cm, relined. - Expertise: We are grateful to Pieter Biesboer for the attribution to Glauber. - Dutch painter. G. was probably a student of N. Berchem and then worked for an art dealer in Amsterdam. From 1671 he was active in Paris, in 1675 he arrived in Rome and joined the artists' association of the Bentveughels. He worked in Padua, Venice, Hamburg and Copenhagen before returning to Amsterdam in 1684. A fruitful collaboration with G. de Lairesse began. G. is considered the most important Dutch landscape painter of the late 17th century. Mus.: Paris (Louvre), Amsterdam (Rijksmus.), Vienna (Albertina) a. others.
