Note: The work was acquired by the neighbors of the artist who settled in a house in the village of Cénevières (Lot) in 1930 with his companion Irène Klestova. It is the latter who is represented on this painting. The couple was the talk of the village because they lived naked in their house. When Irene died in 1988, the Russian embassy in France came to recover part of the paintings bequeathed by the couple to their country of origin. This work was offered by the distant cousin, the only inheritor of the artist to the husband of the current owner who had befriended the couple in his youth.
