HUGO (Victor) French poet and writer (1802-1885) Autograph letter signed to the Count of Balmain. Guernsey, May 5, 1865, 2 pp. in-8. Preserved envelope with postmarks. Very beautiful letter about a manuscript of the father of its addressee. "I have carefully thought about your letter inspired by the most noble and high sentiment. Unfortunately, what you want from me is impossible. I am not only talking about the time that I lack for the completion of the work that I have undertaken and promised... There are necessities of political position. To introduce before the public the memoirs of which you do me the honor to speak, is to accept in a certain measure the solidarity of it.
