Charles FRECHON (1856-1929) "Rouen, Marché Place de la Basse Vieille Tour" oil on canvas signed - canvas with Legrip stamp - annotated on the back "Medalist of the Regional Exhibition of the Society of Friends of Fine Arts 1890". - exhibition label "684 (?)" partly legible - H. 24,5 cm - L. 35 cm. 30th Municipal Exhibition of Fine Arts of Rouen (October 1-November 15, 1886) under the n° 223 entitled "Marché de la Basse Vieille Tour In the Journal de Rouen under the pen of Alfred Darcel of October 16, 1886: "The Market of the Low Old Tower was acquired by the Artistic Society, which made numerous and happy purchases; with more audacity and spirit than the Society of the Friends of Arts, which seems to show a little hesitation to make its own. This small and picturesque study by Mr. Ch. FRECHON is very skilfully treated in a grey tone usual in our city".
