An Islamic mortar
Engraved cast bronze with silver damascene, entirely obscured by verdigris. Of tapering form with an octagonally faceted centre decorated with lotus bud reliefs. The borders with calligraphic inscriptions, the upper inlaid in silver. H 14.5, D 16.4 cm, weight c. 6.1 kg.
Attributed to Khorasan/Iran, 12th C.
