An Islamic mortar
Engraved cast bronze with silver inalys, the red pigment polychromy largely intact but partially obscured by black patina. Of tapering form with slightly protruding base and rim. Decorated with calligraphic inlays. The base slightly concave due to usage, dents to the lower rim. H 13.5, D 15.8 cm, weight c. 3.5 kg.
Attributed to Khorasan/Iran, 12th - 14th C.
