An Islamic mortar
Engraved cast bronze with remnants of red pigment, copper inlays and verdigris. Of octagonal section with moulded base and rim. The eight faces decorated with lotus buds, the borders with calligraphic inscriptions. The base slightly concave due to usage, breakages to the upper rim. H 13.2, D 15.7 cm, weight c. 4.4 kg.
Khorasan, 12th - 14th C.
