An Islamic mortar
Golden yellow cast bronze, the entire outer surface obscured by verdigris and sediment. Of tapering form with protruding rim and base. Decorated with finely worked bands of calligraphy, tendrils and braided motifs. Dents to the edges, one large dent to the lower rim. H 13.8, 17.4 cm, weight c. 5.5 kg.
Attributed to Iran, 12th - 15th C.
