AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY PAIR OF GOLD CUFFLINKS, BY LOUIS WÈISE, CIRCA 1900 Each openwork circular plaques with floral decorations and cable-link connectors, in 18K gold, signed Wièse, with maker's mark 'wiese' for Louis Wièse, French assay marks, plaque inner diameter 1.4cm Jules Wièse (1818-1890) had entered Francois-Desiré Froment Meurice workship in 1839 and became manager of the workshop in 1844. The same year he founded his own workshop, working initially for his former employer only. His son, Louis Wièse (1852-1923) joined the workshop in 1880 and took over the firm when his father passed away.
