First edition of this scholarly treatise on the history of thermal waters and their therapeutic qualities; some passages concern nutrition during baths. Andrea Baccius (1524-1600), a physician, had obtained in 1567 the chair of botany at the university "La Sapienza"; in 1586, Pope Sixtus V appointed him first physicist.
