This allegorical figure of Abundance or Charity
Charity, one of the three theological virtues, derives from both
from both the Christian iconography of the Virgin and Child
and the pagan representations of Ceres, goddess of fertility
fertility symbolized by the horn of plenty. The subject
and the physical characteristics of this female figure, with
female figure, with stocky and graceful proportions at the same time,
bring it closer to the productions of French Flanders
and Hainaut, around Cambrai, Arras, and Mons under
of Jacques Du Brœucq (ca. 1505-1584).
