Pieter Lisaert (Antwerp 1574 - after 1615) Female musicians or The foolish virgins Oil on panel 49,5 x 46 cm Pieter Lisaert's production is very scarce and marked by high quality; among his works we mention the Last Judgment of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, signed in his own hand. Our work refers to his most representative motif: Parable of the Foolish Virgins and the Wise Virgins (Mt 25:1-13). Of this series of works we know a signed version in a private collection in Seville, a version kept in the Prado Museum, another in the National Gallery of Finland. A member of a family of artists and art dealers, from the scant biographical information, it is known that in 1604 Pieter Lisaert was far from his hometown, and it is believed that he died around after 1615, probably in 1624. It is possible that he trained in the workshop of Philips Lisaert II, although this is not documented. The last record of Pieter alive is his inscription as an independent painter in 1615. A work, now in the Prado Museum and from the estate of Fernández Durán, reveals to us a clear knowledge of Pieter of the art produced by the Franckens, with whom he probably collaborated, since works very similar to his style have been attributed to Frans Francken II.
