Giuseppe Nuvolone (San Gimignano 1619 - Milan 1703) Saint Joseph with Child Oil on canvas 142 x 80 cm The work has always been kept in an important collection in Como as an original by Giuseppe Nuvolone. The autography, on the occasion of the auction, has been confirmed by Professor Michele Danieli. Giuseppe Nuvolone was born into a family of important artists, being the son of Panfilo and brother of Carlo Francesco, both painters of high rank. He was formed following his brother and adhering unconditionally to his stylistic choices, so much so that in the past the two productions were difficult to distinguish. In reality, his painting diverges for the use of a palette clearer and, sometimes, for a vein of tragedy hardly found in Carlo Francesco. In the '60s and '70s he worked in important decorative enterprises of sacred and profane theme in Milan, often alongside characters such as Giovanni Stefano and Giuseppe Montalto, Antonio Busca, Ercole Procaccini il Giovane, Federico Bianchi. Later he was active in Rome, Cremona, Brescia.
