William Vance (1935-2018)
Ramiro - The secret of the Breton
Gouache on paper for the cover of the album. Signed and dated 1977 at the bottom center. 45,5 x 32,3 cm. Dargaud, 1979.
Ramiro is certainly Vance's most personal series, the one in which he has invested himself the most. The Belgian author makes the beautiful part to Spain, his fatherland of adoption, by taking care of the decorations of Castile.
Ramiro remains a series with a very different atmosphere from the rest of the production of the XIII artist. An investment that is confirmed when Vance takes over the scenario from volume 7, the artist having realized only few albums as a complete author.
The author, who started his career in advertising, had no equal for restoring the spirit of an album through its cover. This original shows it in many ways.
