Zola, Emile - MANET, Edouard.
Biographical and critical study accompanied by a portrait of Ed. Manet by Bracquemond and an etching of Ed. Manet after Olympia. E. Dentu Éditeur, 1867; in-8 black half-maroquin with corners, cover preserved.
First edition.
The brochure was sold at the retrospective exhibition organized by Manet himself, in a pavilion built at his own expense at the Alma, on the sidelines of the 1867 World's Fair and Salon, from which he had been excluded. "I hope it will set the world on fire", said the artist of this first monograph dedicated to him.
The illustration includes a portrait of the artist engraved by Bracquemond, in frontispiece, and an original etching by Édouard magnet representing Olympia.
