HENRI IV (1553-1610).
Autograph letter signed to his friend Captain Portal, (s.l.n.d. [ Circa 1576]). 1 p. in-8 oblong. Hole from a burn outside the text.
He orders his childhood friend Captain Portal to go and join the troops who are leaving to take Casteljaloux. This order is not dated, but we can place it at the time when Henri was still only King of Navarre and when Bazas and La Réole fell into the hands of the Protestants and the siege of Marmande was undertaken (1576). "Capne portal you anvoye ladvys que jay resu dun dessyn de ceus de basas sur la vylle de castel jaloux ce quy me fet vous pryer de vous porter en haste a leur ancontre prenant au passage les gens de pyet du cap pychart auquel jen escrys by this bearer for that you asyste of all the syen I do not doubt that do not break this dessyn of your ordinary courage and an hopes new proof of your devocyon to the byen of my servyse it is your more afectyone mestre and amy Henry".
