Buffon (Georges-Louis Leclerc de): Œuvres complètes de Buffon. Paris, chez Baudouin Frères, 1827. 34 volumes in-8°, contemporary binding in havana half calf, smooth spine with cold filets, gilt title and decoration. Spine uniformly unstained giving a nice patina. Nice set, rare binding defects except for 3 headpieces and the adjoining box glued back. The 32 volumes (28 plus 4 supplements) are bound but not cut, more or less pronounced foxing depending on the quires, or volumes. 1 frontispiece in black, portrait of Buffon, in volume 1, then 3 plates in black in volume 4. All the plates in color were gathered in 2 volumes entitled "figures" one for the mammals, the other for the birds. 115 plates of birds to know 110 plus 5 bis, 74 plates of mammals, 70 plus 4 bis. These 2 volumes of plates are clean with very rare stains. Rare complete set, containing 189 plates printed in black then hand-colored.
