Series of ten paintings Company School. Polychrome pigments on paper. India, Tanjore, early 19th century. 37.5 x 23.5 cm. This series of ten paintings depicts various Indian trades and castes, with descriptions written in French in the lower part ("weaver", "silk merchant", "barber", "bourgeois", "juggler"...). Paintings of this type were produced in European taste for Western travelers. A comparable series is published in : Archer, M.
