France, end of the Louis XVI period. Clock with Venus embracing Anteros observed by Cupid in Carrara marble and gilt bronze. The dial is leaning against a marble cylinder surrounded by leafy garlands and pearl friezes. It is surrounded by Venus being kissed by a Love and a second Love. The base is decorated with metopes representing the Lovers feeding the sacred fire, two leafy craters and two flaming hearts inscribed in a laurel wreath. The base is a gilded bronze spinning top. The white enamelled dial with the hours and minutes in Arabic numerals separated by a railway. Hands delicately openworked in the form of fleur de lys for the hours and in the form of arrows for the minutes. The set rests on a rectangular grey marble base with a half-moon front. The upper edge of the marble is decorated with a frieze of pearls in gilt bronze. Base in crushed spheres in gilt bronze. Dial signed "Tavernier Horloger du Roy A PARIS". Probably Louis Tavernier, clockmaker in Paris, received master in 1788. Height: 31 Long. 27 Depth: 13 cm. Base : Height 4 Long. 30 Depth 15,5 cm. A late Louis XVI period marble and gilded bronze clock representing Venus kissing Anteros under Cupid's watch. On a grey marble base decorated with bronze ornaments.
