Each leaf : Height : 187 Width : 64 cm. Total width : 192 cm. A large 18th century Mechelen painted leather screen. "As early as the Middle Ages, Flanders produced leather for sheathing and bookbinding. From the Renaissance onwards, these leathers were also used for furniture. Mechelen, located north of Brussels, has made it one of its specialties. The decorative motifs of this leather, made in the 18th century, are partly based on the famous designs of the Malines lace, which also made the reputation of this Belgian city in the decorative arts: flowers, bouquets and scrolls.
