MAROC.
Album of 45 photographs retracing the attack against the Sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Moulay Arafa, on the way from the Palace to the great Mosque of the Mechouar.
Red cardboard album.
Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Arafa (1886-1976) was briefly placed on the throne of the Cherifian Empire by France after having ousted Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Youssef (future King Mohammed V) in 1953, who supported the independence claims. He remained there until the return of Ben Youssef in 1955. Highly contested because of his lack of legitimacy and popularity among the Moroccan population and the worsening of parallel violence in Tunisia and Algeria, he escaped an assassination attempt by the Moroccan nationalist Allal ben Abdallah on 11 September 1953.
