Carlo Borromeo Autographs - Borromeo, Carlo - Letter Beautiful 4-sided holographic letter from San Carlo Borromeo who signed himself Cardinal of Santa Prassede, dated Arona October 19, 1584, addressed to Ms. Bernardino Tarugio [Tarugi], 200 x 290 mm., Enclosed in an elegant gilded frame with moldings, from illustrious provenance: the Castle of Racconigi, an important Savoy residence. ** The long letter is a detailed account of the preparations and travels inherent in the visit of Count Annibale Altemps to Borromeo, Imperial Count since 1560 and husband of Ortensia Borromeo. Cardinal Borromeo, Archbishop of Milan, dedicated the last years of his teaching to the evangelization of the Swiss valleys, attempting anti-Protestant expansion toward the Cantons, from the Grisons to the neighboring valleys.
