Ottoman square with embroidered decoration in high relief of silk threads and golden cannetille on a red velvet background.
Representing an Ottoman sultan seated on a throne decorated with stars and crescent moons and framed by two armed guards. Legended in Arabic above the sultan "Sultan Salim".
Yellow canvas lining.

A.B.E. 19th century.
From the name embroidered in Arabic and the face of the sultan represented, this must be Sultan Selim II who ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1566 to 1574, succeeding his father Suleiman the Magnificent.
