French master (1st half 20th c.), _x000D_. "Forest Landscape", oil on canvas laid on wooden board, illegibly signed lower right, 65 x 53.5 cm, many small old restorations, paint chipping on top._x000D_ Provenance: bought in 1980 at ars domus antique gallery Krefeld, since then in family possession._x000D_ According to the invoice, the painting was purchased as an authentic painting by the artist Hippolyt Lucas (1854-1925). The signature located at the bottom right was read as "Hippolyt Lucas". During a restoration in 1991, overpaintings in the lower area were removed and a signature located below "Lucas" was uncovered, part of which reads as "Utz...". The artist's name Utz is known several times, but could not be assigned to a specific artist until now. The restorer left both signatures next to each other.
