A pair of silver and gold 'Stuart crystal' memorial cufflinks, c.1700, A pair of silver and gold 'Stuart crystal' cufflinks, c.1700, with octagonal faceted rock crystal covers, over a fine twisted wire monogram with crown above, believed to be that of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne. Fluted domed silver backs with gold cojoined hoop connections. A later brocade fabric covered case by Callow of Mount Street, Mayfair. Tested as approximately sterling silver and 18ct gold (2) Provenance: The residual contents of Bixley Manor by instruction of the executors of Sir Timothy Colman KG. Sir Timothy Colman was married to Lady Mary Bowes-Lyon, niece of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the Queen Mother. The family are descendants of King Robert II, the first Stewart King of Scots who was a grandson of Robert the Bruce. Bowes-Lyon is the family name of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne. Condition Report: Case tatty. Hinge broken. Tarnished. Dirty and deteriorated beneath the crystal covers.
