A Victorian diamond set en tremblant spray and bee brooch, c.1880, A Victorian diamond set en tremblant spray and bee brooch, c.1880, with a rose bloom and spray of Lily of the Valley and ferns. The en tremblant rose bloom with a cushion cut diamond, in a cut down collet at the centre, with old European cut and cushion cut diamond set petals and stem. The diamond set leaves and sprays all with cushion cut and old European cut diamonds in cut down collets, with grain set foliage. The bee settled on the Lily of the Valley, with graduated rose cut diamond set wings, thorax and abdomen, with cabochon ruby eyes, to a replacement roller catch. Tested as approximately sterling silver, 15ct and 9ct gold. 66 x 57mm, 25.00g Condition Report: Tarnished. Scratches and marks consistent with its age. Diamonds bright and lively. Later roller catch and backing plate. Previous historic repairs to the spray stems and wires to the reverse. Soft solder present, cracked in some places. All these repairs could be improved with modern advances in restoration, and it is advised this is carried out prior to being worn.
